Human succession · Family wealth

Wealth has a shadow.

Beyond the visible assets lie the human dynamics that can strengthen or destabilise a family's future.

Two inheritances

Visible Wealth

The assets, structures, ownership and plans that can be measured and transferred.

Shadow Wealth

Every significant inheritance carries another inheritance alongside the financial one: identity, belonging, expectation, relationship, responsibility, meaning and purpose.

Your professional advisers manage the transition of financial wealth. We work with what passes alongside it. Visible wealth can be transferred. Shadow wealth must be transformed.

Turning inheritance into human opportunity

What cannot be placed on a balance sheet can still determine what happens to everything that can.

Succession can expose questions that have been present in a family for decades: Who belongs? Who carries responsibility? What does the wealth mean? Who is permitted to change direction? What is inherited besides money?

When these questions remain unspoken, financial structures can become containers for emotional struggles they were never designed to hold.

Our work creates a confidential space in which the family can encounter those deeper dynamics without being overwhelmed by them — moving from inheritance as burden toward stewardship, relationship and a form of wealth that can remain alive across generations.

Where succession becomes human

The pinch points.

01

The founder who cannot quite let go

When identity, authority and enterprise have become inseparable.

02

A life they did not choose

When inherited privilege quietly becomes obligation, guilt or paralysis.

03

Old dynamics, new structures

When rivalry, loyalty and unresolved history reappear inside governance.

04

Wealth without living meaning

When preserving capital becomes disconnected from purpose and creativity.

05

The moment after liquidity

When the event everyone prepared for financially produces a different question: what now?

06

A family beginning to fragment

When what appears to be a financial disagreement is carrying something deeper.

How we work

Enough space for what is actually happening to emerge.

A moment

Private Inheritance Conversation

An initial confidential conversation to discern what is happening beneath the presenting issue and what is needed next.

Half day / day

Inheritance Practice

Concentrated time for individuals or families at a significant threshold: slowing the system down and discovering where movement has become blocked.

Continuing work

Family Practice

Bespoke work where succession, relationship, identity and purpose require sustained attention. The work develops around the family, not a programme.

Fees and arrangements are discussed privately following an initial conversation.

For wealth advisers & family offices

Prevention before rupture.

Private bankers, wealth managers, lawyers, trustees and family-office professionals are often among the first to sense that something within a family is becoming difficult, while the difficulty itself may sit beyond the proper scope of financial or legal advice.

We provide confidential advisory and reflective consultation to help professionals recognise early human signals around succession: resistance, anxiety, unspoken conflict, identity disturbance, relational fracture and loss of meaning.

The aim is not to turn advisers into therapists. It is to deepen attunement, support appropriate boundaries and enable earlier, wiser intervention.

The founders

More than 65 years of combined professional experience working at depth with people, relationships, complex transitions and the search for meaning.

Brian Murphy MA

Brian brings a complementary contemplative and relational depth to the work, creating conditions in which individuals and families can slow down sufficiently to encounter what is actually present rather than simply manage its symptoms.

Phil Joslin

Phil is a Jungian analyst whose work has developed over three decades at the meeting place of psychological depth, transition, leadership, relationship and meaning. He brings particular attention to the unconscious dimensions of change: the images, loyalties, identities and inherited patterns that can quietly organise a family from beneath the surface.

Together, their disciplines create a distinctive practice: psychologically rigorous, contemplatively informed and grounded in the lived realities of relationship and change.

Our way of working

Do not fight the movement. Learn how to move with it.

The approach is closer to the principle found in Aikido than to conventional problem-solving. We do not force a family toward a predetermined solution. We receive what is present, attend to its direction and work with the energy already within the system so another movement becomes possible.

Depth. Jungian attention to symbol, shadow, inheritance and transformation.
Contemplation. Enough stillness to distinguish reaction from what is asking to emerge.
Embodiment. Meaning brought back into relationship, decision and lived experience.
Movement. Not analysis without end, but the recovery of possibility.

A private conversation

Some inheritances begin long before anything changes hands.

If you are approaching succession, sensing strain within a family, or advising a family where the human dimensions of wealth require another kind of attention, we welcome an initial confidential conversation.
